Bradley Wiggins, who won the Tour de France and an Olympic gold, has been knighted in a New Year Honours list dominated by London 2012 medallists.
The cyclist appears on a special list drawn up to recognise 78 Games heroes.
Paralympic cyclist Sarah Storey becomes a dame after taking four golds while the most decorated sailor in Olympic history, Ben Ainslie, is knighted.
Katherine Grainger, Victoria Pendleton, Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and David Weir become CBEs, and Andy Murray is an OBE.
Well the promise was kept.:)

Agreed :tu:

Also glad Kate Bush was rewarded with a CBE for her career in music.

<off topic>
Just one lady in my life would be very welcome right now </off topic>

I'm glad The Ennis got an honour as I think she's a fantastic role model for young girls today. I'm a little taken aback at Peter Higgs getting a mention. I think I'll try his method of describing something that may not exist. Such as the amount of effort I will put in to work today.

Weird that David Weir doesn't get a Knighthood really. Andy Murray should have got a CBE (that's higher than OBE right?) for winning the US Open and a gold medal but otherwise good list! Shame Danny Boyle turned a Knighthood down and what about Stephen Fry? Has he turned it down the past?

Why? He didn't just 'describe something that may not exist', he proposed it's existence in the first place to solve a mathematical inconsistency in physics and was extraordinarily proved right this year. It's incredible that he correctly hypothesised a particle decades ago before anyone had any hope of examining that far down.

Ellie Simmonds MBE is upgraded to a OBE :D (She was the youngest person to receive an MBE at 14/15 years old).

When I passed my cycling proficiency test, I got a certificate.

These days, you get a knighthood.

True. Although I would just say that being the first British winner of the Tour De France and winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games is slightly more advanced than passing a cycling proficiency test. ;)
