Indeed. I always thought that was the name of the group not a single person :(

In my defense I'm not quite old enough to remember it originally :D

I regret to say I am old enough to remember - although she didn't have a lot of hits "Rescue Me" was a great record and is still regularly played.

I'm old enough to remember "Rescue Me" but strangely do not recall Fontella Bass? :(
