Positive story for a change

No axe to grind but just to balance things; on the 20Mb package, always got 18-20 so very happy, noticed at the weekend speeds were down to 10-ish, checked at 5am Tues as I was up early and they were 5Mb :td: Didn't have a chance to do anything 'til Wed evening, took the router (Apple) out of the equation and speeds now down to 1.5  Bit the bullet and called 151 at 19:00, through to India by 19:05, call was answered by tech who took over the machine, diagnosed bad power levels, booked an engineer for today 12:00-16:00. Other half called at 14:30, engineer been and gone, new modem, download showing 20.26Mb and new unit where the cable enters the house as 'it looked a little old and might as well do it while I'm here':)
All in all very happy with the service, fixed within 19 hours of being reported

C'est la vie.;)

The trouble is that just because a small percentage with a provider have issues they tend assume that they are the norm rather than that they are the exception.:erm:

Indeed and I thought that a little bit of non-news 'good news' was a counter balance :) but we are pre-judging before any flak so maybe people are better than we're giving them credit for. :D
I've been with Cambridge Cable/NTL/Virgin since 1993 and apart from installs I think I've had an engineer out twice, including this call.

I have only ever had an engineer out four times and each time it was just to replace a faulty television box, two of those boxes were analogue boxes which shows how long ago that was, so overall very few issues and only one major outage in 15 years.

I don't get messed around either. For TV, I'm happy to go through India based on experience. For broadband, I always wait/retry till a UK agent answers.

That said, I've had the engineer out twice for broadband and once for TV (other than installs) in around 15 years.
