Area upgraded to 100MB but still only getting 50
I've glanced through the topics and don't see anything jumping out with a similar topic, though I'm sure it's here somewhere.
A couple of weeks ago the status on the upgrade for our area said 'end of November'. I've just checked the status now (as my internet connection seems to be jumpy and freezing every so often), and it says it's done. So I checked my speed and it's still 50. I thought maybe a reboot of the SH might be in order, so did that. Left it off for about a minute. Turned back on, still 50. So just curious how long after areas go 'live' with the 100meg should customers actually be receiving it? I figure it's only happened in the last few days, so fair enough if it takes a couple of weeks to switch over, but just wondering so I know what to expect. Thanks in advance. |
Re: Area upgraded to 100MB but still only getting 50
it isnt a case of it just happens dude, it happens when somebody decides they want it to happen and they force a modem reboot and the new config file is downloaded. A lot of peeps have been moaning about this over the last week or so and I have told all of them not to worry. It is very much 50/50 as to when you get it. Some people are very happy and get it ahead of the deadline mid-month and for some it carrys over a week into the following month. I would personally give them this week and then give them a ring on Monday if nothing has happened.
If you do ring them up explain that it is a free upgrade you waiting for and that the upgrade checker says you area is enabled thus you are not asking for it in advance. I know it sounds like a silly thing to say but if you dont say it they will try and fob you off with a new 12 month contract because it is an upgrade which you are requesting them to do for you. |
Re: Area upgraded to 100MB but still only getting 50
What you haven't told us is how you know it's still 50meg. Presumably you've looked at the modem stats Operational Config and it still says 50 meg.
The other thing you can do, is to get your host name. If your CMTS (which is listed in the host name) isn't the same as the town you think you're in, then your area may not have been upgraded. Bristol is a case in point where users are served from more that one hub centre and we've seen just such a case a few months ago. HTH |

I'm on 100/10 due for 120/20, My area is listed as upgraded and is classed as Newcastle but I'm not actually in Newcastle and my CMTS confirms this. So whilst my Area is listed as upgraded the truth is my area is not. |
Re: Area upgraded to 100MB but still only getting 50
You didn't actually answer my question - at least not definitively. Remember, I'm 300+ miles away from you and don't have the specifics you see.
What CMTS are you on? Or does your modem Operational Conig page confirm 100 megs? |

Re: Area upgraded to 100MB but still only getting 50
Thanks all. Sorry life got the best of me and I hadn't had a chance to come back. Checked online using my postcode and it was ready. Not in a huge rush and haven't tested speed since I posted.
I have no idea how else to check speeds aside from a bandwidth testing sites so that's what I've done as I always have. Checked from a few locations before I posted the initial post after a full modem reboot and all were between 48 and 52 which is what I've had for the last couple of years (aside from a couple of months where work was being done and I had 20-30 or none at all LOL) Anyway, wasn't a moan just a question. Happy to sit tight and wait for a 'switch to flip'. Thanks :) |
Re: Area upgraded to 100MB but still only getting 50
Probably a silly question but how do I find out what CMTS I am on?
|
Re: Area upgraded to 100MB but still only getting 50
in the CMD window tytpe:
tracert www.bbc.co.uk The second or third line of the report should tell you what CMTS you're on. |
Re: Area upgraded to 100MB but still only getting 50
sotn-core-1b-ge-100-0.network.virginmedia.net?
|
Re: Area upgraded to 100MB but still only getting 50
No. It'll be one or two lines above that. Why not paste it all editing out anything you want to keep secret?

Re: Area upgraded to 100MB but still only getting 50
Ah - it's not shown. OK - I should have thought of this sooner!
At the top of the CableForum page is a link marked "Connection" (white text on blue background). Click that - you'll get a popup that should tell you the host CMTS. Southampton has many CMTSs so it'll say SOTN16 or something like that. |
