Streaming Restrictions

This is getting behond a joke,The streaming channels availble to view on your ipad are a totally disgrace and now after having a 2nd tivo installed the streaming between boxes is even worse. They have been banging on about this new tech for 12 months surely in all that time contracts should have been changed with providers :(

Been longer than 12 months lol, more like almost if not 2 years

This is terrible news for those of you who have brought into TiVo. This is just another one to add to list of things VM have failed to deliver properly and I can well understand your frustration Howard. VM never seem to do things the logical way.

Unless you actually like and watch the channels available, of course :)

There's actually a nice cross-section of channels; from general entertainment to sport and music.

A fair point but perhaps negotiations take longer than you or I think they do/should.

Why? My Tivo still works the way it always has and I'm perfectly happy with that. Any sort of streaming was neither guaranteed nor even mentioned when it was originally announced; so we've lost nothing.

We have, however, gained an app to control our Tivos and the ability to remotely manipulate Series Links and Recordings

Where was it promised or guaranteed that all channels would be available from launch? Go on. Provide a link please.

I agree that more channels and the ability to stream your own content would be good and yes, perhaps VM should have acted sooner to get more channels from launch, but none of these things are essential and they will get here eventually.

I still feel that this app is not much more than what we had working via a hack 2 years ago. I just hope it improves more over the next few months.

Re: Streaming Restrictions

Wasn't that the US version? If so, then it's not supposed to be any more than that, is it?

And you have to remember that the majority of people won't have had that anyway :)

There's a piece over on Jason's Virgin Media TiVo Blog that suggests the networking function also needs some work. http://virgintivo.blogspot.co.uk/201...in-medias.html

It gets better folks - now VM are recommending that Netgear homeplugs be used for MRS:

What has the ipad app got to do with Tivo to Tivo streaming?

Whilst I do believe OFCOM need to get involved in such matters, VM have been planning box to box streaming since the beginning of their involvment with tivo; they knew the current restrictions regarding rights issues, so should have many, many more sorted out than they currently do.

Your constant defence of virtually anything VM or Tivo, never ceases to amaze me.

Re: Streaming Restrictions

It would be interesting to know how many channels Sky have that you can stream to computer or Apple device via their Sky Go

Is it a VM failure in negotiating the rights or the broadcasters restricting them ?

Info for that can be found below

The Sky planner sharing feature hasn't been launched yet so no ideas of the channels available etc.

Thanks

so Sky has 38 channels on a laptop and 31 on the Apple device
and Virgin has 45 channels on a laptop and 25 on the Apple device

To me it looks like its not Virgin or Sky thats restricting streaming channels but the broadcasters themselves

That can't be right. It has to be VM's fault or the world would implode ;):p::D

You could well be right , its something I'm not well up on. Sky have also secured the rights to add Channel 4 , E4 , More 4 and Film 4 to Sky Go.
