upgraded to 20 mb only getting 1.5-2mb!
 

Hi,
Like the title says i finally got my free upgrade to 20 mb a couple of weeks ago.
When i test my down load speed with
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...speedtest.html
or
http://www.speedtest.net/

it says between 15mb to 19mb download but when it actualy comes to downloading anything proper i'm only getting 1.5-2mb!
Now wishing they'd left me on the 10mb connection.
Anyone have any ideas what's wrong? i have tried to download at different times ie 5am, 3pm, 9pm even 1am still the same results
I've been downloading a 300mb file for something like 50mins so far this afternoon averaging 150 kb/sec, still says 23 mins to go!
Please help

just done a speed test it's saying 17.52 mbps but my download is only doing 150 KB/sec.
Could it be a setting on my computer some where affecting it?

using Ethernet cable straight from the modem to computer

Same results, i'm going to try a total reboot in a bit again, everything off for 10 mins see if that makes any difference

i guessed the modem is ok, just can't get any good download speeds, before the free upgrade always got around 9mb down

I received 2 letters from Virgin today. The first one I opened informed me of a price increase, the second informed me that my speed had been upgraded to 20Mb. I promptly fired up the computer and tested the speed using speedtest.net. Conducted 3 tests, using 3 different servers. The result was no more than a 6 Mb download speed for each test which is worse than before the alleged upgrade when I would routinely get between 9 and 10mb.

The same with me, i always got good speeds before the free upgrade but now i might as well be on dial up!

Just a reminder, don't mix up units.

20mb/sec != 20MB/sec

If the modem is provisioned for 20Mb/s then in most cases its fine

if the modems functioning on old standards then theres an issue that needs addressing.
