'Upgraded' from 10Mb/s to 60Mb/s speed issue

Morning all

Apologies if I have my Mb/s mixed up with mb/s!

I was after some help really. We have recently changed our package to up our internet speed form 10Mb/s to 60Mb/s using our existing SH.

Previously we were getting pretty much 10Mb/s 24/7, since the speed increase, we are only getting around 20-25Mb/s down [as testd via JDAST] up speed seems fine at 3Mb/s. [Both laptop and phones give very similar results]

I have checked the SH and this is correctly provisioned for 66Mb/s, and have tried testing in safe mode, and this has resulted in very similar speeds.

Do these power levels look in spec?

I am in Hove [Brighton] if this makes any difference!

Thanks for all help

Re: 'Upgraded' from 10Mb/s to 60Mb/s speed issue

having the same problem myself, just upgraded to 100 mb from 30mb. done various speed tests and at best i get 60+ meg and on average 30 mb. i even bought a new router thinkin it might have been the problem but, get exactly the same results. previous to the upgrade i was getting at least 95% of my connection speed on every tier i've been on since i got broadband from ntl eg 2mb 10mb 20mb and 30 mb. got the tech support calling me tommoz.

fingers crossed

It's always worth checking your operating channel via inSSIDer or similar. If it's busy with other signal noise, change SH settings to a less busy channel. Works for me.

Hi,

How is you laptop connected - Wired or wireless? If wireless, does you laptop use 802.11g or 802.11n? If the former, you won't get more than around 25Mb/s... Try the test again wired to the SH as wireless is far too variable to be relied upon to give a true indication of speed.

If you've run your test wired then ignore the above! ;)

I'll have to check the spec of the wireless card, but yes, tested wirelessly as I dont 'think' I have a spare ethernet cable. I didn't previously try wired as both phone and laptop reported similar figures. Unless my iphone 4 is limited by same hardware restrictions?

Will also try that tonight when I get home

Thanks!

The iPhone is 802.11n but I've always had very different results on my phones compared to PCs.

Best thing is to try wired to establish a baseline if you can.

Ethernet cable located and tested - tops out at almost 62Mb/s!

Throttled by an old 802.11g wireless card! Time to find something a little more suitable I think!

Thanks for the help, would never have thought of that as a reason as to why I wasn't getting full speed :)
