Scargill in legal battle to keep free London flat

Quote:

Former miners' leader Arthur Scargill has gone to the High Court to fight an attempt by his union to stop paying the cost of his London flat.

Mr Scargill, 74, says he was given use of the rented three-bed Barbican flat for life when he became president of the National Union of Mineworkers in 1982, a tenure that lasted 20 years.

Free flat for life? Nice 'work' if you can get it eh? Still what can you expect...

OMG another nose in the trough.

That man should be paying back all the money he lost the miners during the strike instead of leaching even more off them.

It's only what i expect from union leaders ,they take members money feather their own nest and use the members to further their own ambitions .In principle a union is a good thing but as this proves modern union leaders are only out for themselves ,

bunch of hypocrites

Looks like old Arthur will have to pay up to maintain the standards to which he's become accustomed.

Oh dear, my heart bleeds... :D

The most amazing thing about this is that he thought the rent for life deal he was on was an alternative to the free house that was purchased by the NUM for his predecessors ,and rented or purchased at a nominal fee on retirement .So basically all the leaders of the NUM (and probably a few other unions) have been royally screwing the workers they are supposed to represent for decades

Champagne socialists, don't you just love them. They're just as bad as MP's with their snouts in the trough.

Even worse imo ,two faced and hypocritical .They are supposed to represent the members but divert funds raised by the members to feather their own nests ,isn't the CWU under investigation for using funds inappropriately?.

Strikes me it's anyone with any power these days .Seems to me that in some respects we are going backwards in the race to class equality

Unions are like democracy, a ploy to make the peasants think that change is possible. :dunce:
