100m Upgrade. How long to kick in ?

Hi all.
Call with VM earlier this evening & opted to upgrade to 100mb service. Currently on 20mb (I think), poss 30mb.
Lady on the phone said 2-3hrs for upgrade.
Been 4+ now. Have had the router off for half an hour, but still dont think I'm seeing any upgrade.

Can somebody tell me where in my router / modem settings it will tell me what i'm on...?

Speedtest.net is showing about 19Mb/s.

Modem / router is a Superhub VMDG480.

PC is connected with a 54Mb wireless card, so obviously not expecting to see full 100Mb.

When the engineer installed the Superhub he left a USB Wireless "N" adapter.

Would I be better off installing & connecting via that..?

Does the fact that we connect devices like an iphone 3GS, Android phone & another older laptop mean we cant get the full speed of the Wireless "N" speed...?

Thanks.

Go to http://192.168.0.1. I havent had a look at the GUI on R36 but pressume you still have to sign in as admin/changeme, click on advanced settings and then click on config. You want to be looking for something which looks like this.

Primary Downstream Service Flow
SFID : 900
Max Traffic Rate : 110000000 bps
Max Traffic Burst : 10000 bytes
Min Traffic Rate : 0 bps

Primary Upstream Service Flow
SFID : 899
Max Traffic Rate : 10250000 bps
Max Traffic Burst : 16320 bytes
Min Traffic Rate : 0 bps
Max Concatenated Burst : 16320 bytes
Scheduling Type : Best Effort

As usual they are talking a load of rubbish when they say it might take a few hours or up to 24. The change is immediate and they should force a modem reboot to download the new config. If yours still says 20mbit then you need to ring up and moan your ass off.

Ya, N is better than G

Yup, the shub will work at the speed of the slowest device so even if you are using your N dongle, if any of the devices also connected wireless are running at b or g speeds, then all devices will run at the slowest speed.

Maximus, many thanks.
Still only 19Mbs on speedtest.net after another 30min modem off/on this morning.

Gone through all the options in the Superhub, including Advanced section, but cant find anything with those parameters, or anything that looks like them.
Aforementioned "moaning off ass off" to commence. :-)

You'll be lucky to get much more than 20Mb/s using a 802.11g wireless card.

Connect via ethernet to the hub and test again using

Jack Dinn's Auto Speed Tester

As far as I can tell, that speed tester gives me very accurate results. :tu:
