Internet Connection SPeed (NTL 250)
Evening all,
I have a system directly connected to a NTL 250 cable modem. The past months my connection speed has been getting slower and slower. http://www.speedtest.net/result/2200141470.png The above should show the speed I generally get now. Logging in to the modem, here are the details. Cable Modem Downstream Downstream Lock : Locked Downstream Channel Id : 1 Downstream Frequency : 330750000 Hz Downstream Modulation : QAM256 Downstream Symbol Rate : 5360.537 Ksym/sec Downstream Interleave Depth : taps32Increment4 Downstream Receive Power Level : 1.4 dBmV Downstream SNR : 39.1 dB Cable Modem Upstream Upstream Lock : Locked Upstream Channel ID : 2 Upstream Frequency : 22200000 Hz Upstream Modulation : QAM16 Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec Upstream transmit Power Level : 52.0 dBmV Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2 For the first time in about five years I have been forced to give in and call Virgin Media help. I am going to be sent one of those "wonderful" super hubs. Eeek. Wish I hadn't called. I think I would prefer to stay with dial up connection speeds rather than suffer a super hub. Something else that has really, really annoyed me is that VM have delayed the speed upgrades by over one year (West end of Glasgow). VM really should not write one thing on the internet and then change it months later. Least they could do is to apologise. |

Best of luck with the superhub.

Re: Internet Connection SPeed (NTL 250)
HWhat's your upstream doing? refresh the stats page and see if it's creeping towards 55 dBmv (which is not good).
It can be a modem fault if that's the case; in that case, put the SH on, look at the upstream again. If it's still reaching > 55 dBmv, and if you have the SH in dread, put the old modem back and get the engineer to call in the network people. If your upstream is stable, then accept the SH and immediately put it into modem mode (I'm sure you'd do that anyway!). Cheers |
Re: Internet Connection SPeed (NTL 250)
Sephiroth,
Thanks for the advice. Upstream is currently at 52.5 dBmV. I shall check it each evening. I should receive super hub in a few days. I shall do as advised. I was going to put the super hub into modem mode and use my router as I always do. I rather liked my NTL 250. It has been a cracking modem. It will be a shame if I have to swap it out. Hval |

The SH will be OK in modem mode.
