Msn connects, But Internet browsing doesn't
Not sure if this is the right place for the question, but here goes.
When using the net at home I have many instances where I can connect to MSN, but if I try to open up a browser, I cannot connect to the net. My understanding is that it's to do with the ports, and Virgin might be blocking the port I do my browsing through - this is all too techy for me. If I reboot my modem, it generally does the trick, although I sometimes need to reboot about 4-5 times or so. Are there some settings on my laptop that I can change to fix this problem? I am running Windows 7. Thanks in advance for all your responses. |

possible virus, glitch/misconfiguration . i doubt its a port problem.. VM and computers work out the box unless ofcourse its been changed. which modem have you got?

Could be a virus or borked proxy settings too.

I've requested a new modem from Virgin yesterday - should be getting it by the end of the week. I have one of the original motorola ones I think they are, Basically I've had it for 12 years!
I ran Defender scan on the laptop and found nothing on it at all. I can connect to https sites without a problem. |

I had a similar problem that was resolved by changing the DNS.
Try using Google's DNS at 8.8.4.4 |

Since receiving and plugging in my super hub I have had no problems what so ever with the net. Will keep my fingers crosses and continue sitting on my wooden stool!
