Can a Super Hub update stop Homeplugs from working?
Apologies if this should be in the networking forum.
I have a Belkin Homeplug connected into my Superhub with a connection into another plug downstairs. About a week ago I lost internet access from my router, so switched it off and on again and works fine. However, since then, my homeplugs have stopped working. I've spent ages making sure it's not an encryption issue, and it isnt. I also have two spare homeplugs of the same brand and have plugged those in, and get the same problems, so it's as though one of the plugs has blown. I'm just wondering if the issue with the internet being list could have been some sort of remote update to the router, and whether that could affect homeplugs. I'm clutching at straws I know, but i've got a screaming wife who wants to know why she cant watch the latest episode of America's Next Top Model!! |
Re: Can a Super Hub update stop Homeplugs from working?
It's 'possible' that turning off your Superhub pulled the R36 firmware update and thus changed some settings, however the R36 firmware was released some time ago so I would of expected your Superhub to have been updated before now.
I am not familiar with how home plugs are configured so best advice I can offer is to pinhole reset the Superhub and configure everything again. |

I once had a homeplug blow an internal fuse, the manufacturer replaced it free of charge. |

I've had Homeplugs for years. My SH has never stopped a Homeplug from working - neither in router nor in modem mode.
What does the Belkin utility show? |

The home plugs probably just need resyncing.

I had them Bt one`s, they were prone to just dying. I had 2 go down. Power lights all ok on your Belkins?
The Bt one`s the power light was very dim when they died |

Ok, so i've obviously tried setting it up with the two spares and that gave me no joy. I must have spent about 3 hours now trying to sync. The best I can get is for them to sync but with the "setting up encryption" lights continually flashing. This gives me a slow internet connection for anywhere up to 5 minutes and then the connection is lost (I guess it times out).
Co-incidentally, I got the Super Hub update email this morning from Virgin. |
Re: Can a Super Hub update stop Homeplugs from working?
I'd guess that the most likely cause of the problem is going to be the Superhub switch mode PSU. It's even possible that it blipped in some way and caused your connection to drop. Try making sure that the homeplug and Superhub PSU connections to the mains are as physically separated as possible if that is in any way possible. What does the utitility that comes with them say the are syncing at? If this were me I'd try a different PSU but I can't advise you to do that as I've no idea if you have anything suitable or would know if it was OK to use.
