VM Super Hub/TP Link 1043 - About to lose the plot...

Hi all, I need some help with a problem Im having with a VM connection.

I have the hub set to modem only mode and a TP Link 1043 wireless router. The modem only mode with an RJ45 direct into the desktop PC is returning the full steady 50mb we expect.

The wifi on the other hand is cronic - 0.05mb a sec cronic. When it comes online it gets up to 8-9mb, but then shortly after it drops again for no reason.

I've reinstalled the latest firmware on the router, I've factory reset and redone the wireless and it still keeps dropping with pings of 300-500 and a maximum speed of 0.1mb sec.

The desktop PC keeps loosing connection periodically - when I went into the router interface and did the quick setup again it detects my connection as a Static IP - If I choose a dynamic IP on setup it contacts the modem for settings (no activity shows on the RJ45 to the modem and the router web interface returns no IP, no Subnet, nothing.

I can't figure out if the router is dying, if the superhub is my problem or what - its driving me absolutely crazy - not only that, but I know the Virgin techs will refuse to help me with my own router so I'm really hoping this is superhub related, is it, or is that wishful thinking?

Thanks in advance!

if the SH is performing in combo and modem mode then yeah your routers at fault and seeing as youve clearly tried sorting the router out you might want to invest in a decent upgrade or send your current router back if theres still warranty.

Before you dump your router.
a.) Try a pin hole reset.

or

b.) Load a 3rd party firmware such as DD-WRT.

The router's in warranty, could send it back to Amazon (which is one reason why im avoiding DD-WRT up to now.

The thing that gets me is when I plugin the router the RJ45 on the back of the SH when its set to modem only mode shows no activity at all and the router can't obtain an IP.

I've done the pin hole reset before I posted here and thats the only way I can get any life out of it - its connected now but fluctuating massively - from 40mb on wireless down to 0.05mb.

if I DD-WRT the router can I flash it back to the stock firmware if it doesn't fix the problems?

just send it back mate. consider a Linksys high end router or Asus if a refund is possible and your able to add money for one.

I will most likely, but at the same time I am not totally convinced that its the router.

I use VPN into the US (work) alot on the connection and just recently it keeps dropping out and reconnecting within a few seconds, sounds okay, but when you are on a ip phone making a call its a bit of a problem.

There are 2 x iphone 4s, 1 x 9300 BB, 4 x laptops, one desktop and a Tablet connecting to to the router. They all show the same behaviour.

I guess having written all this I need to face facts and get the router returned - only thing I will do so before that it switch off modem only mode and see if I get the same problem on the SH, if not I'll just be grateful I bought it off Amazon after all :)

you haven't yet tested the SH in combo mode? try it.

have you looked over your SH's power levels? if you haven't, post them..

put this into your web browser and hit enter, 192.168.100.1

top right you'll see Router status, click on it

then click on downstream and copy and paste it here or printscreen and upload

then go back, click on upstream and again copy and paste it here or printscreen and upload

It would appear so.
