VM sold my Broadband to another customer

I telephoned VM today to grumble about my 20MB BB being offline again and was told that I'd have to put up with an intermittent service for the next 3 weeks.
When I asked them why I was told it was essentially because they'd taken on more customers on my "line" than they could adequately supply and now it looks like we're in a rolling blackout situation.

I feel like I've been stabbed in the back, they're stealing my broadband to give to their new customers - they promised us a free upgrade to 60MB but instead we end up on "Virgin Broadband Lite" when the new customers get the "full fat with-a-sausage-roll-in-it" version.

Thanks for nothing,Virgin - way to look after your loyal customers:td:.

To be honest, there is no way for them to take capacity from one person an guarantee it to another.

If you are having problems, so is everyone else in your area - new and existing customers.

And people wonder why I "defend" VM from BS like this

I've presently got a complete tv and broadband failure.. House isn't even receiving any signal.

:( dunno how big an outage it is.. Guy checked 6 other modems which are also offline just said work is going on.. Couldn't tell me when it will be fixed or anything just somebody will call me Tommorow.

He's got the details wrong for sure - most likely because he was given a poor explanation by support but reading between the lines it sounds like he's been told his area is oversubscribed and that is far from uncommon.

I was told that the "line" I'm on supports about 50 customers, but there have been more customers added, meaning we can't all be adequately supported.

If you think this is BS then that's what I've been fed by Virgin.

Can't imagine for a minute that all the new customers on my line are on an intermittent service though...

It's a shared line, there is no 'new customer' setting. Depending where the issue is, what effects one, effects everyone

Yep its good we have people who will defend a company for poor communication to customers with problems and over subscribing broadband at the detriment of current subscribers.

Everyone on your "line" will suffer the same problem as Virgin have over subscribed your area.

It might be a shared line but it contains multiple channels which may not be shared equally with all customers.
This unbalance could be in either down or upstream channels.

Yes but defending BS with more BS is perhaps not a credible tactical defence strategy? ;) Nor the bleating inevitable predictably boring response of "proove it" where did I say that time wasting histrionics…. ;)

I was more specifically referring to the "they sold my bandwidth to other users" hyperbole :)

If VM oversubscribed my line,as they claim, then I feel that they've sold bandwidth that didn't exist, leading to poor service to existing customers.

They sold my bandwidth to someone else.

How would you have put it?

Perhaps they sold someone else's bandwidth to you ;)
