I'm sure it's 7 days after you've signed up and has to be before the install.

Unless things have changed very recently their is a 30 day get out of jail with a new VM install.

With Sky Fibre Pro I heard it is 3 months. I must say I will take that with a pinch of salt until I have seen it in black and white.

On the legal stuff it denotes

Money back guarantee: Available to new customers and existing customers taking a new service. Call us within 28 days of activation for a refund of your first month’s rental charges and any installation charge. You will only be charged for transactions (calls, purchases, service upgrades) occurring after activation. Statutory rights are not affected.

It's 28 days. In the online Legal Stuff,

it's 28 days in legal stuff yes, but when you get a new contract in the post (as we just did for upgrading to 100) it says 7 working days since you requested it to cancel and must be before it's installed (our contract come after it was installed), I wonder why the inconstancy. 7 days sounds rather dodgy to me.

Because Virgin Media can do stuff that's not required by law?

The actual text in Legal Stuff (which forms part of the more detailed contract by way of reference to the web site):

Money back guarantee: Available to new customers and existing customers taking a new service. Call us within 28 days of activation for a refund of your first month’s rental charges and any installation charge. You will only be charged for transactions (calls, purchases, service upgrades) occurring after activation. Statutory rights are not affected.

The detyailed contract does not make reference to 7 working days anywhere; so anything you might think of as a contract in the post isn't a contract! The Legal Stuff on the web site has a link to the actual contract.

My observation s that VM have always blurred distinctions in their materials.

They are far from being alone in that respect in this day and age which many people tend to forget.;)

I think perhaps it might be that you have 7 days to cancel the contract/install (distance selling regs) but then 28 days to try then cancel the service.

Makes more sense than "Because Virgin Media can do stuff that's not required by law?" or "My observation s that VM have always blurred distinctions in their materials."

But I never posted the name of the company as I feel it applies to everyone nowadays as they try to find ways to stitch you up by making contracts as difficult as possible, you have to be a Philadelphia lawyer nowadays to make head or tails of a contract.;)

"I feel" is not the same as "insider knowledge" LOL.

Surely 'upgrading' to 100Mb is not taking a new service for an existing customer and hence the 28 day rule does not apply.

For the OP it does apply...

The 7 days cancellation is because of DSR (as already mentioned) but doesn;t effect the 28 days Money Back Guarantee offered by VM..

So in direct answer to the OP yes he can cancel though I would do it ASAP and not leave it until the last moment..
