New BBC comedy has been deemed offensive to Muslim people

The show, which aired on Monday night, has been accused of 'taking the mickey out of Islam' and was also criticised for portraying a heavily made-up girl wearing a hijab. Link

Personaly I found it quite funny :D they should get a sense of humour.

Bit rich to entitle the thread "has been deemed", when so far there are just a few complaints, and nothing has been decided.

Just reporting the facts. 200 is not a few the BBC have acted on under a 100 complaints.

the biggest mistake the BBC can make is to stop production of this program.

Mrs Browns Boys could be seen as offensive and stereotypical to Irish people, The Bill could be seen as offensive and stereotypical to PC's/WPC's, etc, the South Park episode about ginger people having no soul is a direct insult on those with ginger hair and again another stereotype/"joke".

It's all in jest!!

The sooner this country moves on from complaining about such things the better. Yes, it may be offensive to some people, but you can probably say in most cases, the person complaining has been guilty of doing the same thing without realising. It being on mainstream television highlights it more

According to some people everything they see and hear is offensive.
Take a chill pill. There are far bigger things in the world to worry about.

Yes, in terms of viewers, 200 certainly is a very low number.

The irony is that it was actually written by a Muslim.

A >20% share in such a late slot is a brilliant figure for any show.

ETA:

Here's a more balanced article from the BBC's website. And by that I mean it doesn't just focus on the complaints.

eg
Quote:

Former Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, Yousuf Bhailok, said the show was "the best thing the BBC has done recently".

They should quit being offended. they watch all the other comedy programs about other races and religions and find them funny.

He just likes to make sure 'they'????!!!! doesn't mean all of them.
he only checks when it's Muslims :)

I missed the show. from the adverts for it before it aired, it looked quite funny.

No, I check when any apparently all-inclusive pronouns or descriptors are used......

You can't be a proper Muslim.
Because I'm white?
Because you're ginger!

:D

I think you'll find that is a factual statement.

Ginners don't have a soul, and their freckles show that they are in league with satan.

I don't think that the BBC would put a comedy on the box unless they had checked with the British Muslim Council. I love the fact they have the Mosque Manager as an English person played by Kris Marshall.

On the Yahoo Site one person wrote:
Quote:

what if we muslim make a program about british who drink beer and watch tv and take drug and have make sex with many girls and without any shame ?
Another person replied:
Quote:

We have its called Jeremy Kyle!!! Get over yourself, sweetie x
Yousuf Bhailok Former Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain is Quoted as saying
Quote:

" It is good to change the stereotyped image of Muslims always being serious and shouting that has appeared so often in the media”
The show is funny so I will be watching it again.

I wonder how many of the people who complained are actually Muslim and are actually worried about being stereotyped
