Olympic recordings won’t play

While a way on holiday my V+ box was set to record the Olympic swimming from the additional BBC channels 1 to 25.

Now that I‘m back I find that the events have recorded but I’m unable to view them. I’ve noticed that the channel is listed as unknown on the listing of the recordings, and the channels are no longer on the tv list. I can pay other recorded programs that have been recorded on the standard channels.

I’ve found that I can Copy the recordings to my DVD/Hard drive recorder and the programs Play, but the Quality is reduced and not HD as on the V+ box.

Any Ideas of how to get them to play form The V+ box Would be very Helpfull.

The cause of this is still being investigated, so keep hold of your recordings.

Can I ask what region you are in, and do you have a Samsung or Scientific-Atlanta V+?

This problem has been ongoing for weeks now, check out the numerous threads on the Virgin community forum.

The initial advice was to re-boot, but this appears not to unlock manual recordings from the channels. Also the re-boot is causing some V+ boxes to malfunction, requiring the HDD to be reformatted.

The workaround you have already found is how most people are viewing the material, as the techs at Virgin still seem to be scratching their heads over this one.

Brilliant allow customers to record from temporary channels in the full knowledge that as soon as the channels are removed that any access to recordings will go with them, well thought out I must say, not.https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/12/10.gif

Apart from now being PIN-locked (because the channels are hidden) my recording play fine on my Tivo. AFAIK this is simply a fault on the V+ boxes.

Also, this is exactly how the Sky-branded channels work all the time. Once you no-longer receive the channels, the recordings won't play.

So be as sarcastic as you like but it's not just a VM thing.

Roll on the Paralympics, and a whole load of new people with the same problem in a couple of weeks time.:banghead:

Virgin gave assurances that the programmes would be viewable for 3 months after the Olympics, no matter whether you had a V+ or a TiVO. The software keeps defeating their techs. The same thing happened with the BBC region change in Brighton. BBC1 still there, but recordings from BBC1 South wouldn't play as it had been replaced by BBC1 South East.

Yes, as they do on the Tivo. It's a fault.

Thanks for the Reply I'm in the south east (Hertfordshire) and the Box is a Samsung.

Stating a fact is not sarcasm as it is down to the powers that be at Virgin Media who obviously cannot organise a drinking session in a brewery, it is pathetic as they know exactly what happens once a channel goes of air.

You cannot protect idiots and nor should you leap to the defence of idiots such as the ones responsible for this fiasco.https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/11/13.gif

No this happened when certain channels were removed last year and many people posted about it back then, it was a joke then the same as it is now.
