Not getting near 100mb
I have a super hub (Netgear VMDG480) on 100Mb (Modem only mode)
It connects to my Asus RT-N66U router. I have these issues. The router is saying Detect Connection Again... and some time it'll refesh and say connected. Speed test go upto 23megish Before the Superhub the old NTL:250 I was getting no issues and 19.5meg via wireless. see post 2 for a doc with the info If you need anymore info please ask. ---------- Post added at 15:53 ---------- Previous post was at 15:53 ---------- sorry abot the mess the cut and paste is crap. |

Re: Not getting near 100mb
firstly your power levels look ok although the error logs make me think that your upstream power is too low. Secondly, if your new speed of 23mbit is wireless and is on a 802.11g device then that is pretty much the best you are going to get unless you get a 802.11n usb dongle.

Re: Not getting near 100mb
Ah I have a "n" dongle for my Pi, I'll give it ago.

Re: Not getting near 100mb
You might want to check the wireless settings on the shub and change it to n only as well
|
Re: Not getting near 100mb
I'm not using the Shub I'm using my own router which supports N.
Whats the best method to disable the Wifi in the laptop? I guess its just go to the device manage and do it there then install the one I have for my Pi? |
Re: Not getting near 100mb
yeah sorry I did read that earlier, every time I see wireless problems I think of the shub. Depending on what version of windows you have got if you go into your control panel, click on something like network and sharing and it will pull up your network adapters. Normally you will have two, one for your onboard NIC and one for your wireless adapter. Right click the wireless one and click on disable. When you connect your usb one it might have some drivers on it which will auto install or you'll have to download some off the internet if you havent got cd for them. I still suggest setting the wireless on your asus router to N only as well just to see what sort of speed your get; saves bumming around on mixed mode with b and g devices.

Re: Not getting near 100mb
Cany anybody reccoment a USB wifi dongle (5GHz) that is compatiable with "Asus RT-N66U router"
I need to keep the router at mixed at the moment as I have several devices that don't support N. ---------- Post added at 22:16 ---------- Previous post was at 22:07 ---------- Plugging in a nano USB dongle which supports N upto 150meg, mine (XP MCE) hovered round 30meg, my dads (Win 7) went to 43meg. |

You dont need a special n dongle, any and all should work fine with your router. You can have a look here http://www.play.com/Search.html?sear...pe=allproducts to see the sort of range there is and if you want something which you know is going to work 100% then go for this one http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/302980...rlrefer=search |
Re: Not getting near 100mb
Cheers I will try N only later (after I sort out a dead TV replacement:()

Re: Not getting near 100mb
That's because to achieve 300Mbps you need two antennas with a minimum amount of physical separation between them.

Re: Not getting near 100mb
That's why most people use one that's *inside* the laptop.

Re: Not getting near 100mb
Not sure why it hasn't been mentioned yet - but if you are trying to identify whether the problem is with your connection or your wireless set up, try connecting your laptop with a cable.
At least you'll have a benchmark for when your testing your wireless. |
