What 5.1 Audio Codec are most Programs broadcast in?
 

Is it AC3 5.1 or even DTS? Or the much smaller AAC? which most rubbish Amps wont decode. Please reply, thanx.

AC3 5.1 if the broadcast is new enough other wise it will be DDPL2 only converted for 5.1 on retro programs..

All non HD programs are in normal 2.0 stereo (PCM), and some HD programs (films) are in 5.1. or DD2.0

It's AC3. (But most programmes aren't 5.1 at all)

AC3, ok great. I read that most BBC 5.1 stuff is AAC though???

Where did you read it? Just a guess, but it might be referring to some streamed content.


Edit: a bit of research suggests AAC is used on Freeview HD.

Can confirm bbc uses aac on freeview hd there was a big oo ah when it happened coz some existing tv sets needed firmware updates.

AC3. It's the only format that is widely supported.
