Over the years this has been a widely debated issue and I feel the bottom line is as jb66 says. There are valid arguments about not using cheap pound land leads but if the lead is of a good shielded quality you will be very hard pushed to notice any difference whether it is gold plated or not.

Gold plating doesn't make a lead instantly good quality, if a lead is very expensive that too doesn't instantly make it good quality.

However I've got gold plated leads and can I tell the difference between them and the nickel ones supplied by Virgin Media? Honestly, no but I feel better!

So based on that any suggestions for better quality recordings to my Dvd recorder ? I have tried disabling HDMI.Going with scart only and TBH the quality is not what i would like it to be.I am using Panasonic Dvd-Ram discs in a Panasonic DMR-EZ28 recorder ?

I'm not an expert but with my limited knowledge, your posts leave me puzzled.

The picture quality via HDMI is far superior than what can be achaived via a scart connection. As far as I can see your Panasonic DMR-EZ28 recorder accepts HDMI so I'm confused as to why you are hoping for better quality recordings over scart.

My Sony DVD recorder is old and only accepts a scart connection so I know in advance the picture quality on the recordings ain't going to win awards!

You cannot use HDMI as a record cable it is output only to the TV, this is the first DVD recorded I have seem that does not have scart inputs or outputs on it!

Yep you're absolutely right, my bad. I had to read up and it turns out that it's a HDCP legal thing that recorders are only allowed to output HDMI and not have HDMI inputs. Just shows me that I shouldn't get myself involved in conversations where the breadth of my knowledge isn't up to it! :confused:

That's really odd then; my Sony DVD recorder is connected to my AV system by HDMI cable only and records perfectly

According to this site your DVD-R supports RGB input on SCART #2. So if you set the V+ output to SCART/RGB, and connect the TV SCART socket on the V+ to SCART #2 on the DVD-R, this should give you the best quality. You may need to go into the DVD-R menus to set it to RGB input mode.
