60 meg Upgraded HELP WITH GEARS OF WAR 2
Hello guys, I just wanted to ask I was wondering if anyone could help, Im thinking of getting 60 meg Broadband internet with virgin where I want to host games, I no it goes by Upload speeds which is about 3 meg and should be 6 meg upload but Its a strange thing because on my 30 meg with Virgin i used to get host alot but then I upgraded to 100 Meg with 10 upload speed a few months and never used to get host at all what is that is the super hub? is that because the game is old and does not recongnise these types of connection or maybe a cap? Can anyone confirm that connections with 60 meg download and an upload of 6 meg can allow you to get host? If any one can share there light on there virgin connection experience on Gears of war 2 prefferably with an 100 meg connection or 60 will be great. I live in UK Birmingham btw ;)
Additional Details Im wondering if i get Virgin 60 meg with 6 meg upload speed can i still get host or is upload speed too much? does anyone know or have this connection and used it on gears of war 2 or similar? not with 50 meg |
Re: 60 meg Upgraded HELP WITH GEARS OF WAR 2
when it comes to gaming VM arent so good with ping and jitter and I am sure these will be contributing factors to how the game determines hosts. I dont think the fact that you are on 60mbit or 100mbit will make any difference because there will be users in other countries with faster connections which the game will be designed to recognise.
There used to be a rule for determining how much juice you need to host games and I am sure it was something like 16k/sec per player which makes anything over 3mbit more than sufficient. That might have changed though. |

Ok thanks but can you recommend something better than vm for gaming?

Re: 60 meg Upgraded HELP WITH GEARS OF WAR 2
yup, in complete contrast to VM, BT Infinity is the dogs dangly bits for speed, jitter and latency, it really is the best connection you can get for gaming (despite what VM advertise :) )

^^^^
what does that mean? |
Re: 60 meg Upgraded HELP WITH GEARS OF WAR 2
It is just a comparison between BT infinity and virginmedia pinging the BBC server. As you can see the VM connection is better but as I said its only good in un-congested areas.
