Virgin media home hub
Hi all,
Been a VM customer for years since broadband was first available with NTL. I'm annoyed really as there seems no reward for loyalty! I've recently found out that I've been paying over the odds for the basic 'L' service and that my friend has just had VM installed and gets a free home hub which uses wireless N. I've got a really old VM router and am using a really old Lyncsys router! Is there anyway VM may recognise my loyalty and throw in one of these home hubs for me? Thanks |
Re: Virgin media home hub
ring them up and ask, they will probably give you a price discount, a speed boost, and a free superhub

Re: Virgin media home hub
go for the discounted price and fre upgrade but dont use the shub dude. You have only got to look at the main page to see how many problem threads are prefixed with "superhub". Use the extra pennies you are going to save and invest in a new Linksys router, they kick ass.

Re: Virgin media home hub
Not everyone has superhub problems.

It does have very pretty lights though if you like that sort of thing. It used to be shiny too.

Re: Virgin media home hub
It's not as bad as you are trying to make out.

Re: Virgin media home hub
Can we not just answer a basic question with a basic answer, it's getting quite depressing reading the same people saying the same thing about the Superhub to every question even if it is not related to it.
A quick check here : http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-.../bd-p/BBinHome shows that issues are not unique to Virgin and yes Virgin have made mistakes but to keep spouting on about it and making statements that you have no way of backing is wearing a bit thin. |

Is the Superhub usable - yes. Is it fault free - no. Does everybody get problems - no but it seems that lots do. Can some or indeed most of those problems be circumvented by putting it in modem mode and buying a router of your choice - yes. Should you buy a router straight away - no - try the Superhub first - it may be good enough. I don't rate the Superhub at all but I am using it - that's because I don't expect super performance from an ISP freebie and can make do with what it will do. YMMV |
Re: Virgin media home hub
Only had my SH for five days and no problems at all. Excellent wired speed >30Mb, wireless speed 25+Mb & adequate wireless coverage

I'm a happy SuperHub user since I installed it over 2 months ago. I'm only on L 30Mb but I'm getting >30Mb wired and >30Mb wireless approx 3m away in next room through 11" brick & block cavity wall. Wireless range with my SHub is similar to DLink router it has replaced but SHub connects far more readily with my laptop and gives more reliable connection. As my SHub is in an extension at the rear of my house I don't expect fantastic coverage all over the house and certainly didn't get it with the DLink! The SHub may not suit everybody and obviously there do seem to be performance issues with it for some people, however so far it suits my purpose and does so reliably. |
Re: Virgin media home hub
The SHub works for me ,but only in modem mode. The wifi strength of the shub is just not good enough for my four bedroomed house.
