YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
Before I spend 3 hours on the phone to tech support, I thought I'd ask you guys for some advice.
For the past 48 hours or so, My connection has been unreliable, web pages either taking ages to load or not loading at all. Ive done repeated speed tests and the results have been strange to say the least, Im paying for a 60 meg connection, the speed results have varied anywhere between 15 meg and 133! yeah that surprised the heck out of me. Ive disconnected all pc`s from the hub and tried it with just one, then a different pc, to eliminate any possible problems internally and i am still having the same issues, which leads me to think the issue is external. I live in Sheffield, could it be that they are upgrading the network and this is just a symptom of that, or could there be another problem? ---------- Post added at 13:54 ---------- Previous post was at 13:34 ---------- http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/res...622&v=16677533 |
Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
Try rebooting it if it's a superhub.

Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
yeah tried that several times. the problems seem very random, one moment everythings working perfectly, the next i struggle getting web pages to load. a friend mentioned theyve had similar problems in the sheffield area. I suspect that theres either a problem in the area, or theyre upgrading us. hope its the latter as im stumped.

Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
what are your power levels like (especially upstream)
|
Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
is this what you mean?
Upstream Channels Lock Status Channel ID Frequency Modulation Tx Power Mode Channel Bandwidth Symbol Rate Locked 4 45800000 Hz ATDMA 46.5 dBmV 16QAM 6400000 20480 Kbits/sec Unlocked 0 0 Hz Unknown 0.0 dBmV Unknown Unknown 0 Kbits/sec Unlocked 0 0 Hz Unknown 0.0 dBmV Unknown Unknown 0 Kbits/sec Unlocked 0 0 Hz Unknown 0.0 dBmV Unknown Unknown 0 Kbits/sec |
Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
yeah, it is fine though, I thought it might have been too high causing some packet loss which is why your webpages werent loading

Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
ah i see, thanks for looking though. the problem seems random, im unplugging computers from the router, to see if that make a difference but the fault seems to irratic to get a baseline test.

Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
When is your area due for upgrades, it's possible that they are working on the network in your area.

Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
not entirely sure to be honest.

Enter your postcode here :
http://doublespeed.virginmedia.com It's a stab in the dark to be honest but you might find the issues resolve themselves when the work is finished. Of course the other option is to call VM themselves although if your levels etc are fine then they may not do anything. |
Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
it states between september and november. hmmmm so its not that then.

Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
Hi, what anti virus are you running. Kasperski and avast amongst others are well known for destroying site based speed test results.
|
Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
Depends how far in advance they start work ;-)
If they deliver the speeds in September it's not unfeasible that they would start the work in August is it ? But I am guessing to be perfectly frank. |
Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
im using sophos antivirus and zone alarm firewall.
Ive tried disabling these as part of my tests, but the problems occur across all my pc`s, iphones and ipads. ive shut down all the pc`s and tried just using an ipad to no gain. |
Re: YO YO speeds and unreliable connection
i doubt it is going to a switching fault in the router so it wont matter which device you use. It is going to be a network fault, the best thing you can do is try some tests (wired) after 2200 or early in the morning before you go to work and see what you get
