STM
How do they actually reduce your speed ?
---------- Post added at 18:41 ---------- Previous post was at 16:47 ---------- Brilliant so I get STM'd and now cannot get over 1.1MB/S on steam! well done VM |
Re: STM
they bang your downstream down to a maximum of 50% for 5 hours from when you hit the limit. On a 100mbit connection that will be a maximum of 50mbits. If it is a Friday evening for example and the network is heavily congested there probably wont be 50mbits of free juice for you to use and you'll get whatever is available like 11mbits. Bear in mind though that everyone else is hammering the steam servers as well so 1.1mb/sec isnt neccessarily VMs fault.

Re: STM
I seem to be having some slow download speeds from Steam tonight too from all the servers and I am not STM'd.
As I seem to get the same speed from most of the servers I believe its either a Steam problem or something to do with Virgins P2P throttling, I should be able to determine which one after midnight. Edit: So after midnight the speeds are still slow. |
Re: STM
it is a tricky one to work out because VM say they dont trottle gaming traffic and there will be a period after 2200-2300 when most peeps catch some zzzzzzzz when your speed will shoot up because of all the free juice

Re: STM
Slow downloads from Steam on VM are because they have capacity issues, and nothing to do with STM.
Back when I had 50Mb with them I could only get 20-30Mb from Steam and that was before STM existed on 50Mb. |
Re: STM
Yup, the most i have ever got from steam is 4.1mb/sec and that was with 6 games going at the same time
|
Re: STM
It's just because I was getting 11mb/sec then as soon as I hit the 10Gb limit couldnt get over 1.1
