I've upgrade to 60Mb, but I'm just getting around 27Mb. My upload speed is right (just under 3Mb).

Is this because it's peak time right now??


Can someone check that my Superhub configuration and power levels are correct:-

Were you testing wired or wireless?

8 down and only 1 up that's 400Mbps available down and only 18 up so you could easily be seeing upstream congestion I guess.

I also had problems with speeds after upgrading to 60Mb - even after turning the router on and off several times. A pinhole reset on the router seemed to clear the issue.

I was testing it wireless. Just tried wired and I get 62Mb.

Does that mean I will have to use my own router, as the superhub is not capable of going up to 60Mb on a wireless connection?

technically it is capable of doing way more than that but at the end of the day it is just pants. There is nothing wrong with it at as you have proven that you can get 60mbit wired so if you are going to use wireless a lot then you need to bang it in modem mode and get your old router hooked up. I would also write a letter to VM giving them the feedback and express your disappointment with the shub and its advertised "unbeatable wireless performance"

Is only an Wireless 'N' router capable of sending 60Mbps+ broadband speed on a wireless network?

In practice G tops out at just over 20Mbps - exceptionally you might get 25Mbps.

ditto the above. I won't go into details but although 802.11g is advertised as 54mbits you'll only ever get half that. It kills me to say it but in this case there is nothing wrong with your shub (at the moment!!!)

If you want to benefit from full speed wirelessly you will need to buy an 802.11n dongle for your laptop. You can get them for about £15-£20 pretty much anywhere.

I am on 60mb - speedtest.net shows 14mb download and 2.75 upload... ethernet cable connected.

A phone call is required again for the third time of asking.

Will a 802.11n 150Mbps dongle give me the full 60Mb on my laptop?

That's a "how long is a piece of string" question. The answer is probably not. If you want best speeds then use ethernet.

if you was using another other router apart from the shub then I would say yes. The problem you had before if that you wanted to get 60mbits from a piece of hardware which can only do 25mbits. It is like trying to burn a 4.7gb dvd on a 700mb cd. You shouldn't have any probs with a 150mbits dongle because it is 2.5 times faster than your max wan speed.

A 150Mbps dongle will probably run at 65Mbps max if it's 2.4Ghz only and with about 50% loss under typical conditions you'll end up with barely more than 30Mbps TCP throughput.
