Using 3 tuners when only 2 needed
Annoying than when recording as follows:
Movie Ch 1 14:00 - 16:00 Film 1 Movie Ch 1 16:00 - 18:00 Film 2 Movie Ch 2 14:00 - 16:00 Film 3 That it wants to use 3 tuners, when it should know that if a programme is on the same channel straight after the previous there is no need to pad beginning and end. Don't always remember to remove the padding myself each time I set a recording, plus it's a pain to keep having to do so. Moans at me it needs to switch channels or cancel a recording, but doesn't often cancel the right one! |
Re: Using 3 tuners when only 2 needed
Its the way TiVo has always worked. Its annoying to be honest but something that has been mentioned before to see if it could be changed.
It starts recording film 1 on tuner 1, then when the 3rd film is due to start tuner 2 starts recording that, then Tuner 3 starts recording the 3rd film and then tuner 1 stops recording after film 1 finishes. Common sense you would think it would just continue recording on tuner 1 but split the recording for film 2, however I believe its the way that the coding has been done and the way TiVo stores the recordings that its not possible to do that. |

Can you not set manual recordings, as you can on the V+, as a temporary workround to stop this until the next update?

I can understand what you mean, this does get round the problem, but as you say, it's a faff having to do this for a number of programmes.

Re: Using 3 tuners when only 2 needed
I regularly recorded a couple of programme back-to-back (daily). Neither has any padding and always use just the one tuner.

Re: Using 3 tuners when only 2 needed
It's a shame you can't just use use one tuner and do a manual snip like you can on other video editing software.

Yes. Whilst the current VM Tivo keeps the entire buffer (but does begin playback at the start of the programme) the original S1 Tivo actually chopped-off any of the buffer preceding the start of the show.
I hope I explained that clearly enough :) |
