Looking for new router
 

Hi there,

I'm looking for a new router because the superhub is... not so super, to make it simple. Everything was working fine on my service installed on the 10th with 100mb speeds during all hours until the R36 update was released. As soon as the router updated, speedtests and any files I download would shoot up to 100mb for a few seconds then suddenly stop but it will work fine over wireless. However, the problem does not exist if I put the superhub into modem mode - Everything will download fine.

I've posted on the VM forums but the forum team keep on asking questions that I covered in the opening post, I have called 150 and was sent a new superhub. I received that yesterday but I'm experiencing the same problem with this one too but again, it's working fine in modem mode. As far as I can tell, it can't be my computer at fault then since it works in modem mode?

So, the solution I've come up (and probably the only solution) with is to buy a router with the superhub in modem mode; I'm wondering which one would suit me best? It needs to be gigabit ports since I'm on the 100mb service, upgrading to 120mb whenever the upgrading starts and the router needs to be under £50 but I could stretch it a little.

The linksys doesn't support 2.4GHz and 5GHz at the same time but since none of the devices in my house can support 5GHz at the moment, I suppose it doesn't matter. It's just to have some future proofing when every device is 5Ghz :)

Is what I'd get in your boat, has mid level wireless performance/range and a decent speed on the WAN port which should support ~150mb

I'm running an rt-n16 and it kicks ass!.......
But.........
Be warned that the out of the box firmware is dire so I recommend updating it before you try to use the router. Their are many revisions on the asus website but I can't say if they are any good as I loaded Tomato USB which has proved to be ultra stable. In fact it's a case of set it (although afaicr I'm on default settings) and forget it.

Trust me go for this one, yes it it £140 but you won't regret it.

I bought one after a recommendation here, I bought with a next day delivery and was emailed a time and it was at the early end of that time.

I just turned off modem unplugged the old, router connected the new, powered up, using my tableted I typed in the routers IP and entered the username & password and set-up a new password, then I just entered the SSIDs and passwords for both 2.5 & 5GHz wifi and I was away.

It even boosts the signal to a connected device that is using it.

That's the router I have - if your willing to stretch it beats the hell out of the similarly priced E4200, the realistic range improvement versus said router was around 10-15 metres extra after going through walls etcetera.

Yes, I second this, but it's getting old now. Maybe the RT-N66U is the one to go for now .....

If you want a future one then you going to spend much more as other members suggested ( i know may makes you think for a future one, as they are better) ... but i will recommend a priced one, in the range you have suggested, in the case if you really Can Not spend more than £50

The one below mate is getting 105mb with it and is 450mbps wireless and i think the BEST in this price range for wireless and wired and i believe you can not go wrong with it, for that money (seems is on offer around £20 less)
