iPhone 4S data roaming

I recently bought an iPhone 4S, had my SIM card trimmed, and converted to a rolling monthly contract, including a data allowance. I am happy with my new phone and it works fine in the UK.

Unfortunately I could not get any kind of data service during my holiday in Austria last week. I purchased a data pack - which worked in the past with my BlackBerry - but kept getting error messages. I rang the Virgin support number several times and followed the reboot advice. It didn't work.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution? Or should I be looking for a new supplier? I plan to be out of the country for several weeks next year and would like to stay in touch.

Re: iPhone 4S data roaming

could be data roaming is turned off, try going into settings>general>Network or mobile data (depending on the iOS) then turn slider to data roaming to on, if that doesn't work maybe Virgin Mobile has blocked data usage abroad on your account. Virgin can't really help much with iPhone's as they don't supply or support them currently.

Re: iPhone 4S data roaming

hey Steve
I had the same problem with my iPhone 4S. First time I went abroad I could not buy the data via text. So the second time I did it by calling up Virgin before I went. Then off I went abroad...but data roaming didn't work. And yes folks I turned it on under settings;)
So I called Virgin via Skype and then reset it their end and instructed me to turn it off under settings and then turn it back on when I got a text from them saying it was reset.
Still it did'nt work, I didn't call them back because I just gave up.
Virgin support did politely say 'we don't currently support the iPhone, so it may be an iPhone issue'... fair point.

But interestingly, my iPhone 3GS had no problem data roaming on virgin, so maybe it's a 4S issue?

Anybody managed to fix this issue out there?

Thanks Progers, so maybe it is an iPhone 4S/Virgin mobile issue?
This is a Virgin Mobile discussion forum so I am guessing most folks are on Virgin Mobile not O2.

Do you pay by a Pay Monthly contract? Then you can use your phone in over 200 countries. If you're new to Virgin Mobile all we ask is that you've either paid 3 monthly bills or added a deposit of £50 to your account.

You can check that you're all set up to use your phone abroad by simply logging into Your Account. It's a good idea to check this before you travel. If not, just get in touch and we’ll be able to get it set up. Then simply check your coverage, set up your voicemail PIN, pack your bags and go.

Spotted this over on the help pages?
