Understanding what I have

Hi All

I have just upgraded from 60Mb to 100Mb how do I know VM have done this. The reason I ask is when I was on 60Mb (premiere Collection)and connected through my ethernet cable it was showing 1Gb now I have upgraded as of last week it still shows 1Gb but dosn't seem any faster.
Any help and ideas of what I need to be looking for would be greatly recieved.

Ash

1Gb is the ethernet connection speed not the internet. If you pay for 100Mbps then you're on 100Mbps.

What type of modem do you have?

In most cases you can log into the web admin pages of the modem and confirm that it has been correctly provisioned.

Just to clarify, 1gb is the link speed going from your pc to the router. It can support that speed because both your NIC in your pc and the port on the router are both rated at 1gbit. If you had an older router for example which only had a 100mbit port on it, you can only transfer at the slowest speed so your pc would report the connection to be 100mbit.

1gbit isnt a waste atm, it is good future proofing because it means it wont be a limiting factor for future speed increases when they bang us up to 200mbit etc because you know you'll already be able to handle it.
