Superhub issues
Hi All, After a few years of being on 20mb VM and very happy I took advantage of nice Mr Bransons upgrade to 40mb 2 weeks ago and since then its been hell!
I had my new Superhub, set it up and within hours noticed that my wifi was very poor, my Mac is connected with ethernet and is great but my xbox keeps on dropping out and I cant even get my PS3 to connect for more than 5mins yet the position of the superhub is the same as my old router, I have another xbox upstairs which again keeps dropping out of range. So last week after reading advice on here I bought a TPlink TP841, put my Superhub into Modem mode and set up the 841 and it still didnt get any better, I can either have great wifi with no security on the router or no wifi with security and I obviously want to use security. I've now gone back to the superhub with no router buts its not ideal, can anyone advise?? Thanks in Advance |
Re: Superhub issues
I don't know how much advice I will be able to offer you, as I don't use an xbox or ps3, so I am unfamiliar with their issues.
However it must be noted that the superhubs wifi subsystem is absolutely abysmal. What are the issues you had with the tplink in modem mode? |
Re: Superhub issues
To stop the Superhub falling over in wifi mode, you need to change the connection speed on the superhub to 145mbps instead of 300mbps otherwise it will constantly disconnect the PS3.
If your router is not connecting with wireless and security, then it will be a configuration issue with the router, nothing to do with Virgin. |

All decent routers will do security so I can't think why you are saying you have no security? |

Re: Superhub issues
Thanks all, I put it into modem mode on the weekend and used the TP814 but my current issue is that if i have security WPA-SK? switched on then I cannot get any internet from 2 iphones, ipad, mac book air, 2 xbox's and a PS3 but if I switch the security off it works perfect.
i've got no issues with the iMac as its on ethernet Do I need to switch the security off on the Superhub to use the security on the router? All I've done to the superhub is change the passwords and put it into modem mode Thanks in advance |

Once that is done go through your devices individually and run the wi-fi set up - they should find the TP Link and ask for the WPA key. There shouldn't be any problem. PS Once the Superhub is in modem mode you don't have to worry about it - wireless is switched off etc. |
Re: Superhub issues
Try using WPA2-Personal.
You don't have to worry about superhub wireless or security once it is in modem mode. |
Re: Superhub issues
Duh. You need to set the phones to use the same security.

There's no real difference between WPA and WPA2 for personal use either. |
Re: Superhub issues
I thought wpa used tkip and wpa2 used aes?

Re: Superhub issues
Both use both.

Re: Superhub issues
Can you clarify the exact model of TP Link. If it's the TP-Link TL-WR841N, you may want to read the review below about connecting to Macs ......
