Not really 'news' but thought some might be interested.

“We are finding that more than 50% of TiVo viewing is done through search, recommend and browse functions. People aren’t thinking about Channel 106 anymore, they are thinking about a particular actor, actress, director or genre — the things you would think about when you walk into a library.”

This I found interesting, myself I use the browse almost daily - As if it was a "paper" TV guide. As for the other choices ,no never do. As I look for type not actor.Only once tried it - It worked no question,however it confirmed my doubts ( I stress MY) HE was ( or perhaps the show) rubbish

“I would argue that over the past five years we’ve been investing very heavily in the best network — what I think is the daddy of all networks,” he says.

Interesting how he calls an over subscribed, over utilized, jitter fest of a network the "daddy". Good one Neil, good one. You're not fooling anybody.

:rolleyes:

There may be some areas that are as you describe but there is no way you can label the whole network as such.

Otherwise I would't get results like this, would I?

Also interesting that they say NTL was in a terrible state when they tool over. In all the years I was with NTL, I thought the BB was excellent!

Yeah right, run a proper ping monitoring tool and i bet that jitter will be higher

You can "bet", etc., all you like. Those are my results and just because they don't agree with your opinions does not invalidate them.

ETA:

Okay then. I just did my own ping test using the Win7 command-line

ping www.bbc.co.uk

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 16ms, Average = 15ms
Minimum = 17ms, Maximum = 25ms, Average = 20ms
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 17ms, Average = 16ms
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 16ms, Average = 15ms
Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 33ms, Average = 22ms
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 18ms, Average = 15ms
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 15ms, Average = 14ms
Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 32ms, Average = 23ms
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 25ms, Average = 17ms
Minimum = 15ms, Maximum = 17ms, Average = 16ms

Giving an average of 17.3ms

So pingtest not actually too far out. Though I'm sure you'll continue to pick holes until you get the result you want.

That jitter test runs for about 3 seconds, it doesn't accurately reflect the quality of the connection.

Your ping test to the BBC quite clearly shows your latency is unstable. Your post gives me the results i want.

Now back to your fetish over Neil Berkett :)

And yet I can use the internet without any problems. So it's not really an issue for your average broadband user is it ? :)

Was with NTL & I had no problems. Still have no BB problems, TV niggles but nothing more ( & can work around them - Free view is a savior some times) . Phone - wish I did not have to take it. Mobile is all I really use so seems like a unnecessary cost.
So I guess while I would not call it the Daddy ( unless you mean as in old) Its just about OK.

Re: Latest interview with Neil Berkett

My connection is ridiculously jittery:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/s...c51095f1b0.png

That said, I'm overall quite happy with the service I have. It beats the other ISPs I've used at least, in that while the pings are ridiculously jittery, they're generally quite low and the speed is pretty good. Only problem is the traffic management and STM, so admittedly BT Infinity is looking pretty appealing right now.

That said, while I'm not the one in the family to watch much TV, I've found Tivo to be a vast improvement over Sky's offerings and I'd gladly stick with Virgin TV.
