TV5 Monde Subtitles
 

I'm on the XL pack with Virgin and until recently a number of the films and drama programmes on TV5 had French subtitles, that could be accessed via the blue button from the menu screen. However, more recently English-language subtitles are showing instead. Anyone know why the changes have happened, and whether there is any way of accessing French-language subtitles?

TV5 requested that VM switch from French to English subtitles.

It is no longer possible to access French subtitles using the STB menus. However, if you have the TV connected to the STB by SCART or RF, you may still be able to access the French subtitles by using your TV remote to go to teletext page 891.

I see from TV5 Monde Newspaper ads that English subtitles are now available on 825 and many programmes have [S] in the Info. I am puzzled by the previous comments, as I have never been able to access subtitles, whether in French or English. Now, if I go to the Blue Show Subtitles button, nothing happens. Works ok on other channels, any ideas? Perhaps I have a dodgy V+ box. Cheers.

As the post by 'spiderplant' says, subtitles are available if you view the channel using RF. Use the old teletext system on your TV. Page 891 is French, 892 is English. It might work via SCART, it may be just my SCART setup that doesn't. It even works on recorded programmes. All of the TV5 teletext pages are there eg News, sport, weather etc.

I understand what you are saying, but TV5Monde's website says, "...and in English with French coming soon for Virgin viewers (press the blue button from the menu). English subtitles are new for 2012 and open up TV5MONDE to a much wider audience." Virgin's own site also says, "Press the blue button".

I have emailed TV5 to see what they say.
