Jumbo packets and Facebook

Hi all. This problem is related to another thread here.

Basically on my home machine in the last few days facebook has refused to load in ANY browser. All other websites work fine.

Strangely it turns out to be related to the jumbo packet setting on my network card, which when i disable - facebook loads fine.

What I can't get my head around is that i also have jumbo packets enabled on my other laptop which loads facebook fine too...

Has anyone ever come across something like this affecting how websites are loaded?

Note I've had this setting for years and only in the last few days has facebook stopped working.

Just facebook?

Probably MTU autodetection breaking.

I've had problems with Facebook myself and some random websites over the last few days and to be honest, browsing in general has been dire for a few months

Yeah thats why i replied to the other thread started about Facebook problems, thinking initially it was a VM problem.

However in my case I can make Facebook work or not work simply by changing the jumbo packet setting on my network card between 9024 and disabled.

I wonder if this could be related to IPv6 going live and that changing something on the network which causes larger packets to fail? Its the only thing I can think of that might have changed recently...

and now Facebook works again today with jumbo packets enabled!

Must have been a glitch somewhere on the route to FB i guess.

See the default IT answer "switch it off and switch it back on again" really is golden :)

Here's a weird thing, i logged off facebook yesterday and couldn't get back in, the site just wasn't loading, i tried it in another browser and the same thing happened but if i searched on google for facebook and clicked the link to the direct login , it let me sign in, something weird is going on with either FB or virgin
