Quick question about Tivo

Hi,

Quick question which has probably been asked many times:

How much does it cost an existing customer to get a 500GB Tivo box?

I think it is Free One-Off cost, and £5 a month - is this correct?

Is it an one year contract? If so, what happens if you moved during the 1 year contract?

Thanks

If your profile is correct and you are on TV M, you have an additional issue. You cannot have TiVo on TV M. You would have to move to TV M+, at least.

I have the following: (see attached)

How much more would it cost? What about the 1 year contract?

Thanks

Re: Quick question about Tivo

This is dependent on your Loyalty bundle allowing this but:

£7 to go up to TV M+
£49.95 to swap your V+ HD box for TiVo 500GB

If you wanted to keep the V+ HD and swap the V HD for TiVo it would be £13 extra (£7 for TV M+ and £5 for the TiVo fee in addition to the V+ HD fee)

Ben, can we still get the V+HD or is it only Tivo now? We have one VHD box and one standard V Box. All I want is the recording facility - what is the cheapest way of going about this?

Don't want to steal Ben's thunder but the simple answer is no. You can no longer get a V+ HD box (except as a replacement if you already have one that becomes faulty) as a new customer or upgrade.

The only PVR offered by VM is the TiVo box. If you need the recording function and you are considering TiVo then I recommend that you check out the new 'Collections' (http://store.virginmedia.com/bundles...llections.html) as they include TiVo as standard and one of the packages may meet your needs in terms of services and cost.

Hope this helps.

eventually i would imagine virgin to increase the price of a package but make it so it has two TIVO boxes maybe a 1TB and a 500GB, or both 500GB

its quite annoying for new customers that they can no longer get a PVR box that is not TIVO. as TIVO does cost quite a bit extra

hey Superblade7 are you on a collection package, your description merely lists your services?

Only when it comes to having more than one TiVo

Rest of the time TiVo costs the same as the V+ HD did

I have recently renegotiated my package and am on the Essential Collection with extras (as shown).

It comes to £65.40 a month (with the Essentials Collection as the base). Although this includes 30mb broadband as opposed to the 10mb (going to 20mb) that I have.

Is it worth speaking to Retentions to see what they can offer? I simply want to swap the V Box I have with a Tivo box (for which I understand I also need to upgrade the tv from M to M+). We only watch the Asian channels so the list of channels increasing doesn't really bother me, and 20mb internet is also plenty for me!

Yes, give them a call, tell them what you want and see what they can do for you. Except for the odd person, the retentions staff have always been helpful, friendly and generally willing to offer me a better deal if they can.

Good luck and post back to let us know how you get on.

So I called the retentions team just now. As we have said so far in this thread, I would need a M+ subscription for the TV as a minimum. Also, I would need a minimum 30mb broadband service.

Price? .... £62 per month + £50 install fee. So pretty much £65 per month for the first year. Surely the retentions department should be offering better than that?

It's not bad considering you'll be getting a fair few more TV channels, your BB speed trebled, a TiVo box and probably a Superhub modem/router for about an extra £10 a month (and around £3 less than advertised). Any loyalty discount you get will be relative to your services, so as you are on the lowest tiers of TV and BB, you'll get lower loyalty discounts (they give little discounts on the phone services).

At the end of the day, it all boils down to personal choice as to whether the extra services are worth the additional costs to you.

The other option is also whether a competitor (eg Sky) can offer you what you what you want for less?

Just gotta go with whatever best meets your needs and is suitable for your budget mate.
