Re: Girl in China falls through hole in pavement
Very lucky indeed. I'm amazed at the spectators that rushed over to the edge of the hole without hesitation - there could have been a sinkhole under there much wider that the pavement that initially collapsed and they could so easily have followed her down.

Re: Girl in China falls through hole in pavement
Living in a area where their were around seven mines in a three mile radius, sink holes are commonly discussed topic here at council meetings. During the mid 80's the local council had to spend over five million pounds installing bracing into the flats on my estate as the front walls were coming away from the buildings due to the building being on top of old mine shafts that had began to collapse. Their has been at least two smallish sink holes in the past couple years that have caused the death of life stock not two miles from my home and a grade 1 listed building has fallen also due to old mines.
Even today they are sill finding mine shafts that are not on any maps. Kinda scary if you think about it. One day you look out of your window and your garden shed is gone.. |
