Recordings ending early

Hi first post have been having problems with the recordings on my VM + box. Have noted that there has been no recent posts on this subject & thus wondering if a solution is available. Since noting recordings during March & April I have had various BBC programmes finishing 1 or 2 mins early plus a C4 prog.
I reboot regularly via a timeswitch & the V+ box is set to record 2 mins early at start & overrun 5 mins at end.
What would be the effect of resetting these to 10mins each, would this stop progs being recorded both before & after? Comments please both on the problem & resetting, thank you.

Are any of these programmes that you record are on series link?

I have the same problem, but I think I know what to do:

If you set the series record before changing the settings via the timeswitch, the timeswitch will not work. If you set the series link after changing the settings, then it should work.

Thank you for your prompt reply, I confirm none of the recorded progs were on series link We had been advised by VM not to use this whilst I had this problem. You refer to time switch is this something on the V+ box? My reference to time switch relates to a digital device at the mains plug, thus I do not have to do manual reboots.

Are the recordings the correct scheduled length, for example 1 hour + 7 minutes padding. If not, how many minutes are missing?

You may as well set the padding to 10 minutes. It won't stop programmes recording. The V+ only removes the padding if there is a clash.

By the way, I wouldn't recommend using a timeswitch to reboot the V+. It is better left on all the time.

The recordings are the correct scheduled length of 1 hour + 7 minutes padding We have experienced up to 3 mins missing at the end, but usually 1 min.
Can you advise why a regular weekly reboot is not recommended. When I first had this problem a VM advisor stated that he had noted that my box had not been rebooted for several weeks and advised that I reboot at frequent intervals.

OK, the problem is that the programme wasn't on at the scheduled time. Increasing the padding to +/- 10 minutes will prevent it happening in future.

As mutant_rabbit says, you'll need to set up any existing series links again if you want them to use the new padding settting.

Thank you all for the good advice, will keep an eye on the recordings & if anything untoward happens again will post an update.

Yes, it was just general advice in case you have any series links as well.

I had this happen last weekend. Luckily, the program in question was on demand. The program was on series link, but no settings had been changed. It managed to miss the last few minutes and only just recorded the beginning. This may be down to FX, but it seems as though it just didn't add any padding either side, despite the +2 at the start and +5 at the end. A common fault?

Re: Recordings ending early

This happens to us with V+ despite having the padding set at +10mins before and +10mins after recording whether the programs are on series link or not and whether there is something else recording at the same time or not.

It is the one thing that aggravates us the most.
