DVLA selling drivers' confidential details

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...st_read_module

Surely it needs to be investigated practise suspended. This apparantly been going on since 2006 turns out crimals now got this data. God help us what they got planned sadly we may already know.

Quote:

Our new investigation has found:
  • The number of names and addresses being sold by the DVLA to parking enforcement companies has more than tripled since 2006.
  • The agency plans to make significant profits from selling the details by upping the fee to help plug a £100 million gap in its finances.
  • Another parking enforcement firm is alleged to have broken DVLA rules by selling thousands of drivers’ name and addresses at a profit to another company.
  • A further parking company bought the details of 85,000 drivers, but a director admits he does not know what has happened to the data after his firm went into receivership.

Very very disturbed reply to this article was at the bottom if read it its the second reply to it.

Its about someone who been accused illegal parking but never driven or set foot in the said town. She was hounded was put into debt collector ended up threatening them with lawyer it finally ceased.

All PARTIES have derelict duty to SORT THE DVLA OUT. Its all there fault nobody can say it was not us guv.

This very big headache all for the sake saving money they caused massive issue.

Wonder if motorist should take legal action if they wont sort this mess out. They surely knew not to trust clamping firms there enough sleeze in this profession. Whatever possessed these idiots DVLA to pass so many details over to these firms.

There should be full disclosure of all firms at momemt 23

There should be full disclose whose towns

Portsmouth and Wolverhampton named.

Stop selling wholesale more details forthwith.

Independant investigation why checks failed why details got sold to company after it was prosecuted directors jailed.

Surely Drivers have the right to DEMAND ACTION

Thanks Hugh

It was the reply underneath what sickened me that company already used data to try obtain money by false pretences.

Should made it clear sorry martyh.

Indeed very very worried what happens those who aint got proof or witness they was not there. Either could be so scared they cave to intimidation of hounding letters or bailiff.

I think will keep my receipts proof was not in X town.

As wolves, portsmouth named if any cableforum live here be very worried. Possible hound your local MP.

What I cant get my head around what the hell DVLA thought why would they want 85,000 details. If they seeking details then it should be case by case.

I would question independant abritory to look evidence if they not got case to answer then dismissed. Theyre should be better protection from these clamping crooks.

I hate the DVLA with a passion for doing this to enable Private Parking companies to access your details..

I've had a few letters from Private Parking in the past after they got my details from the DVLA, same old companies, Private Eye Parking, TCP Parking, Excel Parking. I've never ever ever been took to court, I've never had a Bailiff come to my house. If you get a letter from the above ignore all of them, don't pay it don't even call them.

totally agree it was horrendious act from public body. I dont see the need for it was very bad move to allow this in first place. Just shows there no common sense at times.

Tax man would not sell our bank details to private debt collectors on pretence they may in future commit an offence.

good advice there shame you was targeted.
