Six UK soldiers are missing, believed killed, in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has said.

Five from the 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment and one from the 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment were on patrol when their vehicle was hit by an explosion.

The families of the soldiers have been informed.

If the deaths are confirmed, the toll on the British military since 2001 will stand at 404.

Lt Col Gordon Mackenzie, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said: "I have the tragic duty to report that six soldiers are missing, believed killed, during a security patrol.
This is terrible news and my thoughts and prayers go out to their families.:(

Sky news are reporting that to have taken out a Warrior they may have used a shaped charge, The question is where did they get it from i would say contender number one would have to be Iran.

May those brave soldiers rest in piece.

Yes, our thoughts are their families and loved ones. They died doing their duty in service of their country. Let's hope their sacrifice is worth it.

I am fairly confident that the attrition rate put on the Taliban by our boys means that the perpetrators of this cowardly act will be meeting there 72 virgins sooner rather than later

So sad to hear this.

404 brave soldiers lost there lives now. I dont see it will improve they finally take this its battled hardened nation where you literally dont know where the enemy is. I feel its no win situation very much our modern vietnam.

Its hard enough fighting the enemy without crazy stupid yanks out there stiring trouble too. Wonder if stupid yanks pulled out it would much better.

RIP the 6 soldiers

We're pulling out soon without finishing the job, all the sacrifices will have been wasted but what's the other option, when will they finally be ready and able to look after themselves.

It's not normally their sons being brought back in body bags, I remember Mullah Omar saying to Bush that the two of them should just go out into the desert and settle it with Kalashinkov's, couldn't help but think it a good idea tbh.

Initial assessments of the explosion which killed six British soldiers in southern Afghanistan suggest it was a "very large Taliban bomb".

Five from 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment and one from 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment had been on patrol in Kandahar province on Tuesday. Their families have been told.

The remains of the bodies have now been returned to Camp Bastion in Helmand

Who wants 72 virgins anyway, 72 old slappers that'll do anything would be much more appealing imo and how does it work with female martyr's, do they get 72 virgins to.
