Humax tv recorders.
I have given up virgin tv services because of price increase, I get perfect reception on my tv aerial.
However I now want a recorder that records at least two programs whilst watching a third program. I have a Sony TV which has built in free view, so can anybody recommend a suitable tv recorder please? |
Re: Humax tv recorders.
No freeview pvr will have more than 3 tuners so I guess your best bet is to use the tv as a tuner for watching tv and the pvr as a twin tuner for recording two shows.
Some freeview tuners do however allow for a 3rd show to be watched depending on which mux the two shows are being recorded from. For your choice of pvr, generally the two most popular are the Humax Fox and the Digitalstream pvrs. The Humax can be hacked so can allow additional finctionality. It is the more expensive of the two as it has more functionality as standard. The Digitalstream is very easy to use, relaible and intuitive to use. On AV Forums, under pvr section, they have user threads for both so worth checking out. |
Re: Humax tv recorders.
I have a Humax Freeview PVR (9200T) and it's the bee's knees. Mine is relatively old (~3 years now) and apart from it having only 2 tuners the only issue with it is that getting recordings off it is a bit of a fiddle. It's got a USB port which should allow you to do so, but the process (provided software) is slow and buggy. In practice, you need to open the machine up to take the Hard Drive out, physically connect it to a computer and use custom software to transfer recordings. I'm not sure if this issue has been resolved in newer versions (the fantastic hummy forums have unfortunately died), but other than that the hummy is a great piece of kit.

Re: Humax tv recorders.
If you want HD Freeview then get a Humax HDR Fox T2.
It does the record2 + watch a third trick LexDiamond mentioned. It's straightforward to transfer SD recording to a PC for editing (it has USB + network connections and you can add a wifi dongle) and fairly straightforward to transfer HD recordings.
