DD-WRT version with D-link 615

What version of dd-wrt are you currently running on your dlink? I wondered if I can/should upgrade my version. There seems to be a bug with mine were I cannot access my web server (on my LAN) using its internal IP but I can when I use my external IP or domain name. Its something to do with loopback.

I'm currently using

DD-WRT v24-sp2 (11/21/10) std
(SVN revision 15778)

Don't upgrade to the latest as it will brick your router after the first reboot.

Well, almost. The LAN ports all stop working.

Anyone manage to work around the internal ip bug?

Wish I'd read that before bricking my router on the roof... Bit late now, have to wait till the next time somebody gets roofing repairs done for the scaffolders!

I do. I thought DD-WRT was just more stable than my own personal hack of OpenWRT I was working on at the time. Fat load of good that did....

I see. Did you unbrick via wifi?

why don't they remove the firmwares/builds from the database available to download? seems pointless plus when the fixes due.. I would have thought theyd have it sorted by now seeing as how quick those builds got released one after another.

Re: DD-WRT version with D-link 615

No, I turned wifi off just before the upgrade to try and save power to ensure the upgrade worked properly. Also ironic. (The cable to the roof is a bit corroded and I'm still waiting on new plugs to arrive from Hong Kong, so the current ad-hoc tape holding it together means the router tends to reset under load as there's too much resistance in the cable)

Anyway, back on topc, 17201 is what's currently running on my "production" router and there's nothing obviously wrong with it, though dd-wrt as a whole has been stagnating for a while now. I haven't tried anything between 18024 and 17201. No idea what the "loopback" bug it is you're talking about so can't say there. Sounds more like your network setup is wrong than a firmware bug, accessing a local IP from another local IP shouldn't be going through the router to begin with.

your probably better off with the older builds. the newer ones suck, even the 17990 i thought was stable

Re: DD-WRT version with D-link 615

Yes, that looks to be the case. My main "service" routers have been unstable since upgrading to 18024 - having previously hit over 90 days uptime between power cuts (I really need to sort out that damn UPS already) it now loses wireless every 2-3 days.

I honestly think OpenWRT and FOSS wireless drivers have reached a stage where they're stable, reliable, and easy enough to use for the mass market now. That, and being completely FOSS means any and every problem can be fixed by yourself without needing anyone else, if you have the knowledge.

dd-wrt is really declining in relevance these days. Some manufacturers are shipping routers with factory firmware based on OpenWRT now.

how did you load openwrt on a 615 d4

Re: DD-WRT version with D-link 615

Use any of the builds in this thread https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic....157145#p157145

(Or build it yourself)

qas thanks but that looks shot too. think I'll try VM's version of firmware on my 615 instead. have you tried it?

Re: DD-WRT version with D-link 615

No, first thing I do before even booting up these routers properly is to put them into firmware upload mode. Works fine on mine (although the most stable build is usually omgwtfbbq's rather than my own, my own code is usually way too experimental)
