Anyone have experience of Vodafone Sure Signal ?

Hi,

You will see from other threads that I'm planning to overhaul my BB, mobile phone and other tech, and looking for bits of advice. I work from home, and am bumbling along on old tech ATM.

One of the problems I have is that mobile reception here in my office is dire, whatever network we try. I'm currently on Vodafone, OH is on O2, friend on VM, none of us can use mobiles downstairs in the house/in my office. This is a pain from a business POV.

So, in looking at new mobiles, I noticed the Vodafone Sure Signal gizmo, for which they want £50 .

But some questions arise in my mind, starting with :-
Does it work?
Does it use broadband capacity, if so how much?
Does it cause any problems/interference on the wireless signal around the house?

any info would be appreciated.

I use one, as were I live I can't get a decent signal so most most calls dropped out. As part of a new contract with voda I received a new phone, but the signal on it was dire, so I called them and told them it wasn't worth it as I couldn't use it, they then gave me a Sure Signal box free of charge.

The box itself does the job, but you do get the odd time where it doesn't work for a while, but that's minor compared to having no signal. Before I used to get 0-1 bar on the signal (GSM), now I get the full HSDPA signal.

All you do is plug it into the router and a power supply, set it up using your voda's account settings, adding the numbers you want it to work with. The amount of data it needs is not worth mentioning, but if your internet connection goes down then so will the signal box. It does state that you shouldn't have it positioned near a router, but I've not had any interference with/from it as yet.

One more thing, I think you have to be on Voda's network only to use it.

There's a useful review here:

This explains a bit about how it works.
