Can I directly swap my Tivo box for my VHD box?

What I mean by this is...

After a leak from an upstairs neighbour I've had to clear my living room of everything which obviously means missing out on all this weeks recordings. Is it possible to simply unplug my VHD box in my bedroom and plug in the Tivo or is that too simplistic?
