Hi and welcome :)

No the only way is to connect a recorder to the second scart output and make a backup using the option within the V+ menu.

Hi there..

what can you back it up too? do you need to use a recording card/wire plugged into your pc/mac and does it do it in real time?

What does the ethernet allow you to do? is there no way to tap into via that?

It would have to be a DVD recorder or VCR. so would record in real time but the output is seperate so you can still watch TV on the main scart output.

Ethernet isn't enabled for anything at all on the V+.

Re: Download Recordings off a Samsung V+ box

does it just chuck a single video file onto the dvd recorder or does it just make a ready to go dvd and i then have to rip it onto my mac?

I have a dvd recorder sat under the tv doing nothing so i guess that will do the job.

With the tivo box would i be right in saying you can backup your recordings straight to a computer via a network?

Also can i buy a V+ hd box off ebay and use it? some one said you need to get it setup for your area, then some one at virgin said i couldnt do that as the card i have will only work with the box we have at the moment.

You can't back up your TIVO recordings to a PC. The only option in the future is to watch a recording from one TIVO on another

No point wasting your money purchasing VM equipment off ebay, it won't work and VM will refuse to help you. You need to rent your equipment from VM - the boxes and cards are tied together

The TIVO software isn't available in the UK and won't work on VM boxes currently

In all likelihood the content providers won't allow us to have this facility :(

to be honest i've not read the first link properly and just thought you could access the tivo box and use toast to copy away.

Ha satan, apple rule my friend ;)
So is there anything on these instructions that might not work...

the only way to put it onto a pc/mac is to use analogue tv capture card but ther enot been in use for ages i dnt think you can buy one now, the best bet after that would be something that oculd use svideo and mono audio, and use scart converter other than that it cant be done, the recording trasnfer to dvd are encypted and when ripped aint really viewable as there blocked (encypted might be the wrong word)

only vhs is watchable when ripped but that require anaaolgue capture card

no it to prevent copyright theft, and yes america allows it but tivo has some sort of arrangement to allow it

Still annoying.

I can't see it just being copyright as you can record tv onto a computer with eyetv and do what you like with it after, and if the yanks let people do it. I guess it's just virgin being tight
