Its this the IP network/headend Virgin uses?

Just curious about how this stuff works. :)

Ish, thats a much simpler diagram of a IPTV headend. the one (or two as there is a redundant secondary Headend) is a lot more complex than that.

Can I assume that Content Delivery System is along the same lines, with Vaults and Streamers and Caches on the edge of the network etc?

Always wondered how Virgin manage to pump out so much VOD content, especially with TiVo and potentially mobile devices involved via Virgin Media Player.

VM don't use the Cisco CDS. The system used for VOD is primarily from a company called Seachange with the edge QAMs provided by Harmonic

I thought they were moving to using all Cisco hardware for stuff like Edge QAMs (or the end of this press release implies that):

By the way, thanks for the feedback. :)

Sorry bit of confusion on my part. Cisco edge QAMs for broadcast but Harmonic for VOD

Re: Its this the IP network/headend Virgin uses?

So, do Virgin have their own CDS?

Found this article about Comcast's CDS system:
http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2011/08/08/5689115.htm

Sounds like they were doing what Virgin do, and were copying all VOD content to the local headends for playout (or at least, that's what's been implied in the Sky Anytime thread).

Now Comcast have switched to their IP network/CDS system, they can distribute content more quickly.

Is the move to the Cisco Next-generation IP network a requisite to Virgin using a CDS? Or do they already use one of their own?
