l am all for the deserving to get their new years honours but as for the two martyh quoted then in my mind the honours system fails and falls into disrepute l am afraid.

The way i see it is that those who really deserve the honour don't care if they get one or not

I am all for honours in the honours list, but there are more deserving people out there that deserve an award and don't get it.

Ronnie Corbett deserves it as he does a lot of work for charities, but we must all realise that is the PM that puts these names forward and no one else.

I would like a ot of honours going to people that DESERVE an award.:(

No it's not Arthur ,the honours are selected by a committee many members of said committee are not even in government .
That is not to say that the old boys network plays no part in it ,just if you are going to shout at someone ,shout at the right person /people

Since 1993, anyone can put a name forward. You can download the form here:

Not quite as unsavoury as Mr Mugabe (honorary knighthood removed for abuse of human rights).

How much is a Knighthood worth, if you are a Tory donator you can buy one quite easily, total disgrace that TWO large donators have got Knighthoods.

Remember Arthur this does not just apply to the Tory party as Labour also handed out Knighthoods and honours to those who were large donators to their party.

Since his justifiable demise over the Guinness affair Gerald Ronson has at least apparently done an awful lot of good work for charity. IIRC he's donated all the shares in his massive property company 'Heron' to a charitable foundation which benefits the likes of Great Ormond Street Hospital. It may not register with the likes of ArthurGray who habitually overlooks all Labour's dodgy deals with fat cats like SIR Fred the Shred but over the years I can think of a whole lot of politically motivated honours being given by all parties to people far less deserving of them.

Blue Peters Helen Skelton has been ignored again, she rowed down the amazon 2010 miles and rowed 76 miles in one day, both guiness world records, and she is currently cycling to the south pole some 500 miles.

She deserves some rekcgnition

...but some people think that the excuse "because Labour did it..." is an okay excuse for the Tories to carry on doing it, if pulled up on it ;)

It's wrong whoever does it, but equally wrong to ignore that your own party (whoever they may be) does it.
