just getting timer based software and install it on his computer as long as the os is like xp home cant remeber the vista and 7 equilvent off the top of y head but as long as it one of the better one liek win7 pro the software can use group policies to turn off the netork adpater between those times and go as far as log him off and switch the comptuer down and shut it down everytime he tries to restart it until the time you set

Vista and Win7 both have built in parental controls that can restrict the times that a user account can log in.

that is user accoutn but the OP is talking about restricting internet access only. also depends which version i think the essential the xp home equilvent doesnt have the controls i need ot double check not used it in a while

The parental controls aren't in XP at all, but are in the Home Premium versions of both Vista and Win7. Not much point them being restricted to higher versions as it's Home Premium users that will mostly want it.

Re: how to block access

My router has the facility to block access to any PC connected to it. It appears to allow blocking by service, time of day etc. I am using a buffalo router running its DD-WRT version (suplied by Buffalo) I am sure there will be other routers that will do this for you. Mine will block by MAC address and/or IP address.

You could try a search, there may even be information available on cable forum.

That's what I use to block my daughter's laptop.... as attached.

Easy to set up and it works.
