Samsung HD
Hi
My old Atlantic V+ box was exchanged for a Samsung a few weeks ago and there seems to be a problem in that when the settings are set up for HD mode, the on screen menu and some programmes (not the adverts) appear in the 4X3 shape. Is this normal? |
Re: Samsung HD
Change output to 1080 wide not 1080

Re: Samsung HD
It's normal. By default it will show 4:3 programming in the correct aspect ratio so you'll get the bars at the sides (the same as if you watch a 4:3 programme on an HD channel). Setting the output to 1080 wide will get rid of the bars but will do so by stretching the picture making everything look short and fat. With HD increasingly becoming the norm (and some SD channels going 100% widescreen) you may as well try to get used to watching 4:3 programming with the sidebars as it'll get to a point where you won't be able to remove them anyway.

Re: Samsung HD
The 1080 wide setting only adjusts the width of the menus on the V+ to stop them looking sqwashed. You need to change the setting on the TV as well. You should be able to change the aspect ratio to "automatic" or 16:9 which will expand any formats that don't carry the widescreen ID signal to automatically fit the screen.
