Incinerated partial remains of at least 274 troops were reportedly dumped at landfill between 2004-08 by the largest military mortuary in the US.
Shocking!

It's quite astounding what goes on behind "Establishment" closed doors. Depressingly it's probably just the tip of the iceberg. :(

If this happened to one of my relatives, I personally would find out who gave this order for them to be dumped, and PUNCH them in the face, regardless of age, colour, crede or gender.

NO serviceman (even if they were enemy forces) should be treated this way.

After four years of letters and phone calls she received a letter from the mortuary in April informing her that her husband's partial remains had been disposed of in the King George County landfill, reports the Post.

"I hope this information brings some comfort to you during your time of loss," read the letter
are they freakin' serious

I can understand that identifying dead soldiers remains can be nigh on impossible and disposing of them can be a touchy subject but in a landfill for gods sake .
Why not cremate them and have a open service with a scattering ,a bit more respectful than dumping in a landfill

It emerged that a dead soldier's ankle had been lost and a damaged arm bone was sawed off a dead Marine before burial so he could fit in his uniform and coffin.
buried where? if back in his homeland couldn't they seal the body up in something suitable for the flight?

It seems ironic to me that whilst the US has tended to do whatever it takes to get its men and women back from warzones etc. something like this can be allowed happen with those who've died and their families treated with such utter disrespect.

Since the landfill dumping ended three years ago, such cremated partial remains are now buried at sea.
And this is different?

I guess that depends on whether all those inolved (i.e. families) know about and agree to it and whether those remains are treated with proper respect.
