Accessing freeview through existing vm cable?
I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I recently moved into a ground floor flat which has vm cable running through the rooms. Unfortunately I have already got my internet through plusnet and my telephone line is set up with the post office. At the moment we get the standard 5 channels using the cable that is already there. I want to know if it is possible to get a freeview box that will work so we can get a few more channels. To be honest the only channel my the girls are missing is E4. I personally couldn't care less... Does anyone know of any freeview boxes or freesat boxes that we could get for some more channels. We have already bought one £50 freeview box but it could not pick up any channels. I also have spotted a satellite dish outside attached, however I have no idea where the lead enters the flat. All help appreciated, Thanks |

If you want to watch tv through a virgin cable you need a virgin box,

Re: Accessing freeview through existing vm cable?
thank you,
I am more than happy to use a completely different cable, I just don't know how to go about setting it up. The only reason I tried using the virgin cable was because it was already there. I guess the only option is to try and get a freeview aerial connected. Thank you for replying |
Re: Accessing freeview through existing vm cable?
You either need a new aerial for Freeview, or if you can trace the cable coming from the dish you can buy a Freesat box and make use of that. It has a similar channel line-up to Freeview and in the long run will have more HD channels than Freeview anyway.

Re: Accessing freeview through existing vm cable?
that is really useful thanks.
I guess if I trace the cable back to the satellite dish, I would be best to get a professional in to extend the cable so that I could make use of it? Or is it safe enough to buy my own cable wire and lengthen it myself? (on second thoughts, even typing this makes me feel slightly nervous). I think I will see where the cable is heading to from the dish and then get someone else in. Then we should be okay with a free sat box. You have really helped. I have just checked outside and the sat dish cable enters the flat but has been cut off from where it enters the flat from the outside wall... |
