cpu upgrade
Hi,
Just a thought but would me upgrading from AMD 4450B CPU to a Phenom ii x4 9600 be worth £115 ? Aparently it is the best processor for my m/b, the rest of my specs are: Asus M2N68-LA (Narra3) Windows 7 OCZ 700w psu Corsair 4gb RAM OCZ Vertex Plus 120GB ssd Western digital 1tb h/d XFX HD 4890 I dont think the rest of my system is to shabby, just picked up things a bit at a time did'nt wanna spend to much on it but manged to get some bargins :) i've managed to get that lot for under £200 threw work, friends and ebay, but i know it's not bad but also starting to get old, I mean it's not even DDR3 which is making me think do i just hang on and save abit more then start with a new m/b ? http://www.pcupgrade.co.uk/productde...categoryid=484 This is the cheapest place i can find one, if anyone can think where it might be cheaper that'll be great, but also is it worth it ? What do you guys think ? |
re: cpu upgrade
Have a look on overclockers.co.uk Seems to be a whole lot cheaper than the site you posted.

re: cpu upgrade
Whether it is worht an upgrade will largely depend on what you are trying to do with your PC. For example if a lot of your requirements are graphic based, especially reasonably modern games, you might find a different video card, that can support Windows 7 DX11 standard offers better value.

re: cpu upgrade
I would say the 2 main things is gaming and running music software such as reason 5...i'm very much into music production which can get abit cpu hungry when there's alot going on

re: cpu upgrade
With the cost of ddr3 so low compared to ddr2 I'd go for an am3 motherboard

re: cpu upgrade
Thanks, this was purely just an idea, I think I'll leave it and wait till after Xmas and start with a new m/b. again thanks for the input :)

Re: cpu upgrade
The only time I've seen a cpu-only upgrade make any significant difference was whan I got Black Ops. Changed a dual core for a (slower) quad and it made the game play a lot smoother. Doing anything else on the machine I was hardly aware of any difference.

Re: cpu upgrade
I would agree with others and go for the new board at the moment DDR 3 has come down really dirt cheap and DDR 2 has gone up in price.
I would have though Intel would have been better for a CPU upgrade if you are into music production there CPU's tend to be better than AMD but at a price of course ---------- Post added at 15:52 ---------- Previous post was at 15:48 ---------- Quote:
B-ops was the reason I got a CPU upgrade I was running a geforce 260 with a 2.6 dualcore black edition over clocked to 3.2 and B-ops still ran laggy even on low settings. I changed to a quadcore and it ran smooth as anything although I think I need a new graphics card as this geforce 260 doesn't like running battlefield 3 on ultra settings have to put things down to high and med setting |
